Norman R. Hansen, age 77, of Kimball, MN died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Ely Community Hospital. Norm had been enjoying a fishing trip to Veteran's on the Lake near Ely, MN.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 at Zion United Methodist Church, South Haven with Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery, South Haven. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and at the Church one hour prior to services.
Norman Richard Hansen was born February 9, 1934 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Herbert and Linnea (Anderson) Hansen. He attended grade & high school in Albert City where he played basketball. He then went to Commercial Extension in Omaha and worked for a time in Omaha. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Washington State. He graduated Cum Laude from Buena Vista College of Storm Lake with a BA Degree and later from St. Cloud State University with a Master's Degree. At Kimball High School from 1964-1969 he taught business & psychology and from 1969-1994 was the High School Counselor. Norm was Head Golf Coach, Junior High Football Coach, Junior High Basketball Coach, Yearbook Advisor, Student Council Advisor, and Concession Advisor. He was a member of Kimball Lions Club and Zion United Methodist Church. He was a member & past president of Central Minnesota Counselor's Association. Norm was a strong student advocate and would put forth much time & effort to help students experiencing difficulty with academics or personal struggles. He loved fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities.
He is survived by his two sisters Joann (John) Oatman of Storm Lake, IA, Audrey Gutz of Storm Lake, IA, step mother Ina Hansen of Thornton, CO, nieces & nephews Ann Kolanowski of Bedford, TX, Sue (Bill) Roberts of Minneapolis, Carrie (Jim) Macoskey of Cottage Grove, William Gutz of Blue Grass, IA, Stephanie Gutz of Taos, NM, Marianna (Jock) Holliman of Paradise Valley, AZ. His parents and brother in law Harlan Gutz preceded him in death.
The pallbearers will be Grant Shold, Gene Gohman, Darwin Deuermeyer, Larry Jensen, Ken Schmidt, Gary Trimble, Gary Palm, and Carl Hoffman. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball.
