Obituary
Norma J. Van Derveer, age 80, of Annandale, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at her home under hospice care surrounded by the love of her family.
Memorial Services will be held 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Annandale Evangelical Free Church, Annandale with Pastor Denny Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the church on Tuesday. Interment will follow at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Norma Jean Van Derveer was born September 1, 1933 in Oak Park, MN to Lester and Jurine (Olson) Elwell. Norma attended school in Milaca where she graduated with the high school class of 1951. Following graduation, Norma moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Sears. She was united in marriage to Harry "Dutch" William Van Derveer on May 16, 1953 at Oak Park Church. Norma began working in the accounting department for Investors Diversified Service in Minneapolis. Norma and Dutch moved to their home on Clearwater Lake in 1975. Norma remained working at I.D.S. for 28 years, before retiring in 1983. After retirement, Norma gave many extensive hours through her volunteer efforts. She volunteered her time at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Buffalo Hospital, Pioneer Park and Annandale Care Center. She helped served funeral luncheons at the Annandale Free Church and was also an assistant Boy Scout Leader. In her free time, Norma enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, baking, her bowling league and playing on the I.D.S. softball team. Norma's greatest enjoyment in life was the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harry "Dutch"; children and their spouses, Ronald and Nancee and Renae and Tom Kirby; 8 grandchildren, Jesse, Eddy and Kaz Hultgren, Michelle Gillette, Kristen and Rachel Van Derveer, Carrie Vigen and Scott Kirby; 5 great grandchildren, Kaylee, Brooklyn, and Kipton Gillette, Jackson Mielke, and Roxi Hultgren; siblings, Eileen Fussy and Dennis and Nancy Elwell; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Jurine.
