Neva Bendix Peterson, age 99, of Annandale died Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Annandale Care Center.
Memorial Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Annandale United Methodist Church. Rev. Marilee Benson and Rev. Heather E. Klason will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. An Eastern Star service and burial will be at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008.
Neva Harriet Bendix was born August 6, 1909 in Vesta, MN to Frank and Emilie (Streech) Bendix. She graduated from Redwood Falls High School on May 30, 1927 and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota in 1932. She then taught at the Women's College of the University of North Carolina and at Moser Business College in Chicago. Neva married Donald P. Peterson at Andrew Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis on December 23, 1937. They moved to Annandale in 1942 where Donald practiced dentistry for many years, before passing away in 1972. Neva worked as a substitute teacher and later as the bookkeeper for the Annandale School District. She is a past president of the Annandale PTA. She was active in the Annandale Improvement Club and headed the Annandale Library Board for a number of years. Neva grew up Presbyterian and after moving to Annandale became active in the Annandale United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and organized the annual Christmas pageant. She held the position of secretary for many years and was also worthy matron at Vesta Chapter #68 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed travel, reading, genealogy, gardening, playing cards, cooking, family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Richard of Elkhorn, NE and James (Margaret) of Boulder, CO; sister-in-law, Shirley Bendix of Denver, CO; three grandchildren, Andrea Peterson, Jennifer Peterson and Kristin (Andrew) Kuster; and one great grandchild, Odin Kuster. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emilie; husband, Donald; brothers, Dr. Lester Bendix, Ralph Bendix and Gordon Bendix; and sister, Delia Hardy.
Sharon Planer and Elwyn Nordberg will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
