Meredith J. Froehlich passed from this physical world on April 6, 2025, at the age of 92 years and one day.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Annandale with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Todd Nelsen will officiate. A Celebration of Meredith's life will follow the service at the home of Cal and Denise Froehlich. Burial will be at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Willmar.
Meredith Jean Carlson was born April 5, 1933, to Hannah (Westerberg) and Emery E. Carlson on their farm near Murdock, Minnesota joining her three older siblings Emery Paul, Lorraine, and Curtis. As was typical for rural farms, Meredith attended a one room schoolhouse until high school and then graduated from Murdock High School in 1951. Less typical for the times, she then attended St. Olaf College where she earned a teaching degree in Home Economics. Her first teaching job was at the high school in Sandstone, Minnesota. As a single woman, she rented a room in a boarding house. It was there that she met Milton "Milt" Froehlich, who was the new Agriculture teacher. It wasn't long before their friendship turned to romance followed by marriage on July 20, 1957. They eventually moved to Willmar, MN where they put down roots for over 30 years and raised their kids, Deb and Cal, on an 80-acre farm west of Willmar.
Milt was a teacher but the farm was a true partnership for them. Meredith took care of the farm during the school year and in summer they shared the many farm chores raising crops, chickens, and sheep. Meredith's summers were dedicated to her huge gardens; her gardening and food preservation skills kept the family well fed year around. She made sure to teach those gardening, cooking and preservation skills to her kids. Meredith's winters were filled with creative crafting and sewing, teaching confirmation and Sunday school classes at their church, Bethel Lutheran, as well as being active in several women's groups. Both kids joined 4-H and she was an adult leader for years in their 4-H club; this ensured that Deb learned how to sew, and Cal learned how to cook!
When it was time to move from the farm, Milt and Meredith relocated to Annandale, MN to be nearer their grandchildren, Sean, Calisha, Connor and Celeste. They never missed a dance competition, a hockey game, a choir concert, or anything the children were involved in. The grandkids started families of their own and at the time of her passing she was a proud great-grandma of three and just missed meeting two more.
Milt and Meredith were very involved with their new church, St. John's Lutheran in Annandale, and Meredith found her "tribe" with the quilter's guild, Hands of Hope. She loved quilting and made literally hundreds of quilts over the years of all sizes and shapes.
Meredith was giving, cheerful, kind, and loyal. She loved to laugh and one of her greatest joys was making others happy. Everyone that knew her loved her. Milt could not have found a better partner than Meredith; they always worked as a team. She was patient but expected promptness. If you said you were going to pick her up at Noon, she was on the phone calling you at 12:02 asking where you were.
In the fall of 2021, Meredith moved to Pleasant Vista apartments in Annandale after Milt passed earlier in the year. She made sure to have a living room view that looked over the lake and a second bedroom for her sewing. She again made great new friends, and the staff all loved her. She lived a long, happy, caring and exemplary life. She will be missed by many friends and family. It was an honor to be with her for such a long time.
Meredith is survived by her children, Calvin (Denise) Froehlich of Annandale and Deb (Marty) Essen of Victor, MT; grandchildren, Sean Essen, Calisha (Nick) Revoir, Connor Froehlich, and Celeste (Chris) Strand; great-grandchildren, Fiona Essen, Collette Revoir, Hazel Revoir, and Vivianne Strand; sisters-in-law, Agnes Carlson, Berit Froehlich, and Carolyn Salo; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Hannah Carlson; husband, Milt; brothers and sister, Curtis Carlson, Emery Carlson, Lorraine Norrander.
Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
