Obituary

Melvin E. Ranta, age 75, of St. Cloud died Friday, February 18, 2005 at the Talahi Care Center, St. Cloud.

Funeral services will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball with Deacon Steve Yanish officiating. Interment will be in Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery, Kingston. Friends may call from 4-6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Melvin Everett Ranta was born December 3, 1929 at Kingston to William and Edla (Savola) Ranta. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Marie Oldenburg in November of 1953 and they later were divorced. Melvin farmed near Kingston from 1954-1980; he also was a bricklayer for Jesco Construction, Minneapolis and a cement finisher for Cassellius Concrete, Annandale. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, card playing, and attending flea markets.

He is survived by children & their spouses, Darrell of Waite Park, Alan & Sara of Burnsville, LuAnn & Mike Lizotte of Yakima, WA, Lee & Tina of Yakima, WA, Tom of South Haven; sister, Ellen Hanson & her husband, Herbert of St. Cloud; sister in law, Eunice Ranta of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wilho, Arvo, Wayne, & Leslie; and sisters, Mabel Wanhala, Bertha Loop, & Verna Cowley.

The honorary pallbearers will be Ryan, Jason, Ben, Sam, Lee Jr., & Josiah Ranta, and Tim Rieker. Sarah Goelz will provide the music for the service. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball.
