Melvin J. "Buck" Looman, age 84, of Kimball died Friday, April 8, 2011 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Dassel Evangelical Covenant Church, 301 Lake Street, with Pastor Lloyd Melvie officiating. Friends may call from 4-8:00 p.m. Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday.

Melvin Joseph Looman was born May 7, 1926 on the farm in rural Watkins to John and Mary (Arens) Looman.  Buck grew up in the Kimball area helping his family on the farm. He was self employed as a milk truck driver. He was united in marriage to Carole Dawn Norgren on January 7, 1950 in Kimball.  Buck first began working as a mechanic and eventually in maintenance for AMPI in Paynesville before retiring at the age of 62. He then drove truck for J-Craft for 18 years before finally retiring again at the age of 80.

Buck was a long time member of Lake Union Covenant Church. He was a past member of the Kimball Fire Department and the Kimball and Paynesville Saddle Club. Buck loved bowling, hunting, fishing, horses, splitting firewood. His greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, and the time he spent hunting with them near Remer.

He is survived by his wife, Carole; children, Bruce (Nandra) of Paynesville, Connie Olmscheid of Hutchinson, and Brad (Kerri) of Kimball; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Grossinger of Watkins and Donna (Doug) Conradt of Rose Creek, MN; sister-in-law, Luella Looman of Watkins; and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Deidra Looman, siblings, Marcella and Norbert Looman, and brother-in-law, Gilbert Grossinger.
