Maynard Allen Nilson was born May 28, 1939, in Southside Township, one of the 12 children of Emil and Laura (Pick) Nilson. He graduated from Annandale High School in 1957. Following graduation, Maynard worked as a carpenter, before joining his parents, Laura and Emil Nilson, in the real estate business. Maynard was a Realtor for over 60 years. He was the real estate broker at Wood Shol Company and Wright County Realty, Inc. His last years, he was a Realtor at RE/MAX. He was a devoted member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Annandale where he was baptized and confirmed. He served as the head usher and treasurer, as well as serving on the building committee. Maynard was active in the Annandale Chamber of Commerce, serving as the General Chairman of the 4th of July Committee for 23 years. He was also a Southside Township board member.

On June 12, 1983, Maynard was united in marriage to Betty Duquenne at St. John's Lutheran Church. They enjoyed their family, traveling, and doing everything together. Maynard was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting and fishing trips - along with being the head cook and organizer of many such events. He cherished the time and memories he made with Betty and his family at their Lake Sylvia home. He was a generous man and would often offer rides to elderly church members. He loved to cook and was always bringing soup to his family and friends. Maynard wholeheartedly loved his family, and they were his greatest joy. He will be forever missed. He was dad to 6 and second dad to many. Everyone who knew Maynard, loved Maynard. He had the biggest heart.
