Mr. Mathaeus L. `Matt` Schaufler, age 80, of Maple Lake died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at the Monticello-Big Lake Community Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at St. Timothy`s Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Father Mark Huberty officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30-10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a prayer service 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Mathaeus Lawrence `Matt` Schaufler was born September 24, 1923 in Jordan to Frank & Anna (Pieper) Schaufler. Matt was a graduate of Maple Lake High School. He married Annabelle M. Raiche November 6, 1948 in Maple Lake and she preceded him in death December 16, 1984. He lived in Maple Lake most of his life where he was a dairy farmer and retired in 1986. Matt was a member of St. Timothy`s Catholic Church, Maple Lake. He has been a resident of the Monticello-Big Lake Community Nursing Home, Monticello for the past 5 years.

Matt is survived by a special friend, Betty McClurg of Balsam Lake, WI; children, Kathleen (Mike) Jude of Maple Lake, Mary Lou Schaufler and friend, Dan McElwee of Monticello, Charles and fiancAC.e, Lori Guzek of Maple Lake, James (Deborah) of Maple Lake, Suzanne (Al) Holland of Cyrus, and Jerry (Tammy) of Maple Lake; brothers, Ralph (Patricia) of Webster City, IA and Norbert (Marcella) of Maple Lake; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Annabelle.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ryan Jude, David Barstow, Aaron Jude, Adam Schaufler, Steven Holland, and Dylan Schaufler. Music for the funeral provided by Krista Elsenpeter and Sarah Goelz.
