Obituary
Mary R. "Mary Z." Zahratka, age 78, of Annandale, formerly of South Haven, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in her home surrounded by the love and care of her family.
Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday April 6, 2014 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale. A Time of Sharing will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Committal Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mary Rose Zahratka was born August 16, 1935 in Belle Plaine Township to Edward James and Mary Rose (Obadal) Rosival. As a young girl, she attended school in New Prague. Mary then worked at the Faribault Deaf School as a cook. On June 28, 1952 she was united in marriage to John James Zahratka in New Prague. Together, they lived in Faribault until moving to South Haven in 1962. On December 1, 1969 Mary began her 40 years of employment for Wright County Human Services as a Family Services Aide, until she retired on August 1, 2008. She remained on the farm until 2008 when she moved into Annandale. She headed up the Fare Share food program and served Mother's Camp for 35 years. Mary enjoyed crafting, gardening, canning, sewing and the time she was able to spend with her family.
Mary is survived by her children, Mary Jane (Mike) Huikko of Dassel, John of Annandale, Mary Lou (Alan) Henke of Stewartville, Mary Rose of St. Cloud, Mary Ann (John) Heid of Watkins, and Mary Ellen Hannon of Annandale; 7 grandchildren, Jesse Heid, Joshua Heid, Amanda Brunner, Shane Brunner, David Henke, Steven Henke, and Sarah Henke; 6 great grandchildren, Jesse Heid Jr., Brooke Heid, Tiffany Heid, Devin Heid, Evelyn Henke and Lillian Bjerke; and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
