11:00 - 11:30 am (Central time)
With a heart full of generosity, an unmatched sense of humor, and an adventurous spirit, Mary Ann O'Neil lived a remarkable 93 years filled with music, travel, and cherished friendships. Mary, of Sun Valley, California, formerly of Maple Lake, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery, East Maple Lake in Maple Lake, Minnesota.
Mary was born on September 20, 1932, in Maple Lake, Minnesota, to John C. and Cecelia Grace (Doherty) O'Neil. She grew up on the family farm and later at the O'Neil family lakeshore home, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for family, tradition, the joys of a home-cooked meal, and her Irish heritage. She graduated from Maple Lake High School with the Class of 1950 before moving to California in 1955, where she would make her home for the remainder of her life. Mary began her career with Bendix Corporation that same year, working in employee relations for 43 years before retiring in 1998.
Music was one of Mary's greatest passions. A devoted member of Sweet Adelines International for an extraordinary 70 years, she shared her love of a cappella barbershop harmony through the Verdugo Hills Chorus. She found tremendous fulfillment in singing, performing, and the lifelong friendships she formed through music. Her involvement with the chorus also allowed her to pursue another great love: travel. Mary's adventures took her across the country and around the world, creating a lifetime of unforgettable experiences and treasured memories.
Family remained an important part of Mary's life, despite the distance between California and her Minnesota roots. She shared a particularly close bond with her younger brother, John Edward, affectionately known as "Butch," or to Mary, "Butchie." In later years, her brother joined her in California, where they shared precious time together before his passing in March 2024.
Mary appreciated life's simple pleasures, including good company, lively conversation, and her beloved evening brandy sour. She cultivated a lifetime of meaningful friendships and lasting connections, cherishing her independence while embracing new experiences and adventures. Her unwavering faith and positive outlook on life were a constant source of strength, guiding her through life's joys and challenges. Her thoughtful nature, generous heart, and spirited personality will be fondly remembered by the many people whose lives she touched.
Mary is survived by many cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John C. and Cecelia Grace O'Neil; her sister, Patricia O'Neil; and her beloved brother, John Edward "Butch" O'Neil.
Mary leaves behind a lifetime of stories, treasured memories, and a legacy of kindness and generosity. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved family, forever remembered and deeply missed.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
