Obituary

Mary P. Leahy, age 89, of Bloomington, formerly of Buffalo, died peacefully on March 9, 2024, at her home at the Wealshire of Bloomington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Bloomington with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Fr. Al Backmann will Celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery in Maple Lake. Mary Phyllis Leahy, a woman of unwavering faith and dedication, was born in Buffalo, Minnesota, to Francis and Lillian (Lein) Leahy. Mary spent the entirety of her 89 years gracing this world with her gentle spirit and devout beliefs. Growing up in downtown Buffalo, Mary cherished the simplicity of life. For over seven decades, she resided in the same house, a testament to her steadfastness and her deep roots within the community. A lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, Mary found solace in her faith and commitment to her church. For the past 15 years, she continued her spiritual journey at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Bloomington. Mary graduated from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph with an education degree. As an Oblate of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict, Mary demonstrated her dedication to a life of service and prayer, embodying the values of humility and compassion. Ms. Leahy was a dedicated educator, having served as a longtime teacher at Richfield High School. Her impact on the lives of her students was immeasurable, as she instilled in them a love for learning and a sense of purpose that would guide them throughout their lives. Mary is survived by her nephews and niece, Mike (Clare) Leahy of Bellevue, WA, Kathy (Jim) Palmer of Bellevue, WA, and Jeff Leahy of Renton, WA; great-nephew, Mathew Palmer; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Leahy of Bellevue, WA.
