Mary L. Day, age 78, of Clearwater, formerly of Maple Lake and Wayzata died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at her home.
Memorial Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Maple Lake. Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Palmer will officiate and burial will be in Summit Park Cemetery, Wayzata. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service, Thursday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Maple Lake or Simpson House, Minneapolis.
Mary was born November 20, 1930 in Worthington to Forrest and Winnifred (Cunningham) Chapman. She married Bruce Day on July 27, 1952 and he preceded her in death on September 28, 2005. Mary graduated from Mankato State Teachers College and taught at Beacon Heights Elementary School in Wayzata, Country Day Preschool in Wayzata and St. David's School for Special Needs Children in Minnetonka. She was an active member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Maple Lake, a former member of the Wayzata Community Church and a member of the Maple Lake VFW Auxiliary Post 7664. Mary loved to sew, knit, quilt and cook.
She is survived by her children, Laurie Day (Douglas Thomson) of Minneapolis, Wayne Day of Andover and Lenore Day Lemke (Dave Lemke) of Monticello; daughter in law, Lynne Day of Minnetonka; brother, Robert (Marcene) Chapman; six grandchildren, Andrew and Lia Thomson, Lindsay and Luke Day, Nicholas and Bryce Lemke. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce; and twin sons, Kent in 1968 and Keith in 2003.
Myrna Jude, Sarah Goelz and Krista Elsenpeter Tarbox will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Maple Lake.
