Martin J. Mooney, age 59, of South Haven and formerly of Maple Lake, died at his home on Sunday, December 9, 2012. Marty died the way he lived his life, gracefully, quietly and with great dignity.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as the Celebrant. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and from 9-10 a.m. Friday, both at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. A prayer service will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Martin Joseph Mooney was born April 22, 1953 in St. Cloud to Clayton and Helen (Happe) Mooney. He graduated from Maple Lake High School with the class of 1971 and went on to Anoka Technical College where he received a degree in Heavy Auto Mechanics in 1973. On June 8, 1985, Marty was united in marriage to Jill Farrell at their farm in South Haven. Marty and his brother, Phil, owned and operated Mooney Bus Service in Maple Lake for 29 years. He formerly served as a volunteer firefighter with the Maple Lake Fire Department. Marty enjoyed his hobby farm, where he was a bee keeper, raised sheep, chickens, a turkey, a cow, two llamas, a goat and two pigs. He loved to ride is Harley Davidson motorcycle and he especially loved his family. Marty was a quiet, humble and gentle man.
He is survived by his wife Jill of South Haven; son Joe of Mankato; daughter Sarah (Jeremy) Nelson of Hutchinson; granddaughter Morgan Nelson; mother Helen Mooney of Monticello; brothers and sisters Raymond (Gloria) of St. Michael, Alice Shafer of Annandale, Phil (Theresa) of Maple Lake, Pat (Eileen) of Clear Lake, Lori (James) Buckholz of Burnsville and Carmen (Ken) Prine of Katy, TX. He is preceded in death by his father Clayton.
The urnbearer will be Jim Kojola. Krista Elsenpeter Tarbox and Sarah Goelz will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care, Maple Lake.
