Margaret M. Leahy, age 99, of Maple Lake died Friday, June 22, 2007 at the Minnesota Veteran`s Home, Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007 at St. Timothy`s Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. Mark Huberty officiating. Burial will follow in St. Timothy`s Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials will be used to support education.
Margaret Mary Leahy was born July 14, 1907 in Stearns County to Nicholas & Margaret (Hansen) Thomey. In 1926 she graduated from St. Cloud Cathedral High School and was a member of the girls basketball team; she then received her Teaching Certificate from St. Cloud Teacher`s College. Margaret taught 5th & 6th Grade at Maple Lake Public Schools and married James M. Leahy on June 6, 1938 in Minneapolis; he died on May 6, 1980. She continued to substitute teach in Maple Lake while raising her four children. Margaret was a member of St. Timothy`s Church, Council of Catholic Women, Maple Lake American Legion Post 131 Auxiliary, and was past president of the Maple Lake Parent Teacher Assn. She enjoyed bird watching, playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, reading, gardening and following the MN Twins.
She is survived by children & their spouses, James Jr. & Pat of Denver, CO, Tim & Paula of Bloomington, Molly & Pat Jacobs of Minnetonka, Nora & John Eull of Oconomowoc, WI; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Pierre Thomey, and sisters Alma Thomey, Leone Thomey, Kate Mayers & Lorraine Winter.
The pallbearers will be grandsons Chris, Brad & Ted Eull, Tim Jacobs, Joe & Dan Leahy. The music for the service will be provided by Rosanne Halloran, vocalist and Krista Elsenpeter Tarbox, pianist. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
