Mr. Marcellus A. `Sam` Clayton, age 85, of Annandale died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at the Annandale Care Center.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale with Rev. Heather E. Klason officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery, South Haven. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral chapel in Annandale.
Marcellus Allan `Sam` Clayton was born May 21, 1919 in Clearwater to Willard and Katie (Heaton) Clayton. He married Edna Bratz October 10, 1942 and she preceded him in death February 28, 1972. He was a factory worker for many years before retiring in 1981. Sam lived in Clearwater, Pequot Lakes, and St. Cloud before moving to Annandale. He has been a resident of the Annandale Care Center the past 7 months. Sam loved music and played guitar in different bands. His band `Sam & The Playboys` was well known. He enjoyed making tapes of his music, his family, picnics, drawing, and all gatherings.
He is survived by his daughters, Lois (Lyle) Reid of Annandale, Marjorie Cleveland of Annandale, Mary (Val) Berscheid of Kimball, Shirley Marquette of Richmond, and Kathy (Paul) Hanson of Richmond; sons, Wesley Newman of Paynesville, and Andy Newman of Monticello; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant granddaughter, Carrie Joe; brother, Clinton; and sisters, Verna Gramsey and Annette Granzow.
