Lucile P. Schermer, age 84, of Silver Creek died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the Annandale Care Center following a five-year battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Silver Creek Community Church with Revs. Doug Foreman and Art Stenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Creek Township, Wright County. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and one hour prior to services at the Church. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Lucile was born September 9, 1924 to Leonard and Anna (Kok) Vandergon. She was a lifelong resident of rural Maple Lake and graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1942. On August 25, 1950 Lucile married Raymond Schermer at the Silver Creek Reformed Church. They were married fifty-five years and had five children. Ray died on May 19, 2006. Lucile was a feisty woman that lived life fully. She was wonderfully talented, had a sharp wit and a tremendous sense of humor. She enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing. Lucile was very involved at church by serving on committees and teaching Sunday School. Beginning at age sixteen and continuing for the next 50 years she played the church organ. Lucile directed church choirs, taught piano lessons and sang in the Sweet Adelines. Even this past year at Centennial Villa Assisted Living she would entertain the residents. Lucile had the gift of hospitality and her house was always open to family & friends. She loved teenagers and it wasn't unusual for her home to be a gathering place for 20-30 of them. At age sixty-six, Lucile learned how to do stained glass and became so skilled that she made the stained glass windows in the Annandale Evangelical Free Church.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Sandra (Schermer) & Jonathan Thomas of Maple Lake, Terryl & Susan (Struble) Schermer of Annandale, Becky (Schermer) & Doug Foreman of Maple Lake, Paul & Rhonda (Geisinger) Schermer of Maple Lake, Heidi (Schermer) & Kevin Greniger of Maple Lake; sister, Helen Vandergon of Annandale; sixteen grandchildren, Chad & Bethannie (Thomas) Raiche, Jason & Melanie (Thomas) Spry, Phillip Thomas, David, Jennifer & Jaclyn Schermer, Alissa, Tanya, Vladimir, Tyler & Klava Foreman, Christopher & Stephanie Schermer, James & Chelsea (Greniger) Clements, Hope & Ian Greniger; a great grandson, Jakob Bame-Schermer; and also many nieces & nephews.
The pallbearers will be Phillip Thomas, David Schermer, Christopher Schermer, Tyler & Vladimir Foreman, and Ian Greniger. The music for the service will be provided by Sandy Thomas, Barb Goheen, Jim Nelson, Orma Lou Jacobsma, and a Choir comprised of many other family & friends. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
