Loretta M. Bauer Johnson, age 102, of St. Paul, formerly of Pine City, Minneapolis and Maple Lake, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Little Sisters of the Poor Holy Family Residence.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Little Sisters of the Poor Chapel, St. Paul, with Fr. Mike Anderson as the Celebrant. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Pine City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral, Tuesday, at the chapel. Memorials are preferred to Little Sisters of the Poor.
Loretta Matilda Johnson was born January 6, 1914 to Frank and Christine (Franta) Kunesh in Pine City. She graduated from Pine City High School and earned her Teachers Certificate from the University of Minnesota. Over the years she worked at rural schools in Pine City and Catholic schools in Minneapolis and Maple Lake. Loretta was united in marriage to John Joseph Bauer and he preceded her in death in 1956. In 1976, she was married to Walter Sigfred Johnson in Buffalo and he preceded her in death in 1996. Loretta has been a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Pine City, St. Lawrence Catholic Church and St. Anne's Catholic Church, both in Minneapolis and St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake. She was active in the communities where she lived and in the churches that she belonged. Loretta enjoyed to read, watch baseball and basketball and to participate in the activities provided at Little Sisters of the Poor.
She is survived by her children John "Jack" Bauer of Oakdale, Mary Staudinger of Waite Park, James "Jim" (Sharon) Bauer of Richfield, Francis "Frank" (Mary) Bauer of Richmond and Robert "Bob" (Debrah) Bauer of Northfield; fifteen grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son-in-law Richard Staudinger; and daughter-in-law Mary Bauer.
The casket bearers will be William Bauer, Ronald Bauer, Andrew Bauer, Jeff Bauer, Rich Staudinger and Daniel Staudinger. Lawrence Lawyer, Lynette McGinley and Annie Swanson will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
