Lois June Westphal, 69, of Annandale passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Waverly on Monday, April 16, 2007.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake with Pastor Steven King and Pastor Peter J. Martinson officiating. Burial will be in Howard Lake Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and one hour prior to the funeral Friday at the church. A prayer service will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Lois was born May 24, 1937 in Howard Lake to Harry and Hildegard (Mielke) Engel. She was baptized on June 13, 1937 and confirmed on March 18, 1951 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake. She was a 1955 graduate of Howard Lake High School. On September 10, 1955, Lois was united in marriage to Roger H. "Butch" Westphal at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake. Their 51 years together were blessed by the birth of four children. Butch and Lois shared their lives together as self employed retail store operators in Aitkin, Howard Lake, Cokato and Albion Center. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, playing accordion, dancing and visiting with friends. Her most precious treasures were her grandchildren.
Lois is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Wendy (Dan) Jost of Annandale, Wayne (Joy) of Vadnais Heights, Wanda (Mike) Gagnon of Waverly and Wyatt of Vadnais Heights; grandchildren, Penny Westphal, Andy Gagnon (Christine Hodroff), Luke Gagnon, Kelly Westphal and Jesse Westphal; brother, Dale (Bonnie) Engel of Howard Lake; sisters-in-law, Helen Engel of Watertown and Shirley Westphal of Howard Lake; brother-in-law, Wilfred (Mary) Westphal of Baxter; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her parents and brother, Melvin Engel, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Andy and Luke Gagnon, Dan, Bob, Jeff and Stephen Engel. Honorary pallbearers will be Penny, Kelly and Jesse Westphal. Wendy Clark, Pastor Steven and Becky King will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Maple Lake.
