L. Martin Sandberg, age 87, of Lake Francis, rural South Haven died Friday, December 22, 2006 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church, 17872 35th Street NW, South Haven with Rev. Michael Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the Church. There will be a prayer service 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lloyd Martin Sandberg was born September 30, 1919 in Detroit Lakes to Martin B. and Jennie M. (Johnston) Sandberg. He married Mary Ann Nelson on September 8, 1940 in Moorhead and she preceded him in death on February 12, 2004. Martin was employed by Super Valu in Hopkins for 31 years retiring as Director of Meat Merchandising in 1980 at which time he moved from New Hope to Lake Francis. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather & brother. Martin was one of the founders & served as president of the Lake Francis Association. After his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and owned & operated The Country Woodshop. He is survived by children, Larry (Joanne) of Monticello, David (Cheryl) of Bonita Springs, FL, Joan (Peter) Perusse of Crystal, Judy Kudrle (Raoul Johnson) of Mankato, Sue Kumpula of Buffalo, Scott of Lake Francis; sisters, Marian Amundson of Fargo, Marjorie Brusven of Barnesville, Betty (Robert) Schram of Detroit Lakes; sisters in law, Ruby Sandberg, Lois Nelson, Holly Nelson; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. His wife, Mary Ann and his brother, Elworth preceded him in death.

The pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Chris Goebel, Gena Snodgrass, Shelly Ditter, Jaimee Harodecki, Jenna Kudrle, Anna Kumpula, Emily Kumpula and Sarah Sandberg. The music for the service will be provided by LuAnn Henderson, soloist & Lynda Peterson, organist and for the visitation Sharon Planer, pianist. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
