Lloyd Newman, age 84 of Kimball died Thursday, March 12, 2026, at The St. Cloud Veterans Administration Medical Center after a brave battle with ALS.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, at Kimball United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Kimball Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday, both at the church.
Lloyd was born June 28, 1941, in South Haven to Walter and Jennie (Hogate) Newman. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1959. He joined the US Army in July 1959 and was stationed for 2 years in Germany serving in the 24th Engineer Battalion as a heavy equipment mechanic. While Lloyd was on leave, he married Carol Van Nurden on December 30, 1959, in Iowa.
After an honorable discharge from the Army, he continued working as a mechanic for Ziegler Inc. then Bauerly Bros. Construction. From 1978-1993 he was an Instructor in the Heavy Truck and Diesel department at St. Cloud Technical College. After retiring from teaching, he drove his Peterbilt for JD Donovan Company. Lloyd enjoyed his retirement by collecting and restoring vintage Farmall tractors. He was a member of the Valley Tractor Club of Eden Valley and Kimball Historical Society. Lloyd was a longtime member of Kimball American Legion Post 261 and was honored to serve with their color guard.
Survivors include wife, Carol of Kimball; children, Thomas (Sasha) of New Munich, and Lori (partner David Nienaber) of Kimball; grandchildren, Parker Boxell (Ashley Hinnenkamp), Colten Wolbeck (Serena Williams), Caspian Newman, Carter Groinus, and Maddy Groinus; siblings, Gene (Theresa), Lorraine Rose, and Bill (Brenda); sister-in-law, Joyce; and many cherished family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Theodore, and brother-in-law, Donald Rose.
Urn bearers will be his grandchildren. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Kimball.
