He grew up in Green Valley Township, where he graduated from Menahga High School, laying the foundation for a life characterized by service, hard work and a deep love for family. Lloyd proudly served his country in the United States Navy, including time stationed at Guantanamo Bay and throughout the mainland. His skills and keen eye were exemplified as a sharpshooter on the Navy Shooting Team and as captain of the Navy Pistol Shooting Team. On August 1, 1964, he married the love of his life, Alois Klegstad, at Berea Lutheran Church in Richfield.
