Mrs. Lillian E. Wittenberg, age 99, of Annandale died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Annandale Care Center.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Zion United Methodist Church, South Haven with Rev. Heather E. Klason officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral.
Lillian Elsie Wittenberg was born July 8, 1904 in rural Kimball to Henry and Emelia (Klapotz) Hinz. She married Frank E. Wittenberg April 25, 1923 on the Wittenberg farm in South Haven. They lived in New Auburn and later farmed in rural South Haven. Frank preceded her in death December 4, 1953 and Lillian remained on the farm until moving to Annandale in 1979. She has been a resident of the Annandale Care Center since June of 2001. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, South Haven. Lillian loved her family, church, farm work, cooking, and baking.
Lillian is survived by a son, Frank `Buster` Wittenberg of Annandale; daughter in law, Fern Wittenberg of South Haven; sisters, Agnes Nessa of Chanhassen, and Ada Quist of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Kathleen (Lyman) Bodeker-Hull, James (Karen) Wittenberg, Donna (Bruce) Guggisberg, Bruce (Kathy) Wittenberg, and Darlene Randall; 15 great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; 3 great great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her son, Norman; brothers, Fritz, Carl, Herman, Max, George, Clarence, and Walter; sisters, Hulda Johnston, and Emma Appel; and a stillborn grandson preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Nick & Mike Guggisberg, Norm Bodeker, Gordon Hesse, John Lebens, and Chad Wallebeck. The organist for the funeral will be Jamie Miller.
