Lester E. Matthees, age 77, of South Haven died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center, St. Cloud.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fair Haven with Rev. Timothy Nerud officiating. Interment will follow in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the Church. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Friday.

Lester Edwin Matthees was born March 2, 1930 in Stearns County to Edwin J. and Marie (Hoffman) Matthees. He served during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army and then farmed in Southside Township, Wright County until retiring in 1997. He also was a part-time Wright County Deputy Sheriff until 1980. He married Norma Reid on March 25, 1958 in Concordia Lutheran Church. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church & South Haven VFW Post #7332 and a former member of the South Haven Fire Department & South Haven Sportsman`s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Norma of South Haven; 2 children, Roger (Fay) Petzel of Oconto, WI, Marie Working of South Haven; 2 grandsons, Thomas (Melissa) Working of Tigard, OR, Gregory Working of Wausau, WI; and great grandson, Dylan Working of Tigard, OR. His parents, infant son, brother Floyd, and sister LaVer Meinke preceded him in death.

The organist will be Ruth Fry and the arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
