Leone Arfsten, age 86, of Annandale died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Annandale Care Center.
Saturday, Feb. 26 is a prayer service at 4 p.m. at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Rock Valle Lutheran Church, 6098 210th Ave, Echo with Rev. Dan Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at the Echo City Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to the service.
Leone Marion Deloris Arfsten was born August 5, 1924 at Fairfax, SD to Frank Oscar and Edith Olive (Seger) Anderson. She married Dale Albert Arfsten on Oct. 28, 1944, and he preceded her in death on August 13, 1971. In 1975 Leone married Art Gullickson and they divorced in 1983. She was a homemaker, cook for Echo-Wood Lake Schools & Parkview Home, cashier at Echo Bank, and bookkeeper for Arfsten Transfer. She served the community with the smelt feed, bloodmobile screening, school student screening, helped with organizing the Senior Citizens' Nutrition Center in Echo, and community drives, was a member of American Lutheran Church, ALCW, Altar Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, & Music Mothers. Living in Rochester from 1989-2001, Leone discovered the joy of working in home healthcare. She enjoyed gatherings for holidays, birthdays & weddings, writing letters, reading, traveling, dancing, fishing and quilting.
She is survived by children & their spouses Lee & Richard Johnson of Hoschton, GA, Dennis & Mari Arfsten of Annandale, Charles & Nancy Arfsten of Cleveland, TN, Betty & Erik Lindberg of Pine Island, Barbara Arfsten of Savannah, GA, brother Vernon Anderson & his wife Donna of LeSeuer, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her husband and brothers Oliver, Milford & Vincent Anderson preceded her in death.
The pallbearers will be her eleven grandchildren Jennifer Arfsten Braun, Melissa Arfsten Johnson, Justin Arfsten, Sara Arfsten Barr, Nick Arfsten, Tova Lindberg, Emily Lindberg, Ben Lindberg, Ruth Lindberg, Kara Lindberg, and Joshua Arfsten. The organist will be Joan Johnson and the arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
