Obituary

Leonard J. Winkelman, age 87, of South Haven died Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Annandale Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Kimball with Fr. Thomas Olson officiating.  Interment will be at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Duelm.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to services at the Church.  There will be a prayer service 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Leonard Joseph Winkelman was born March 30, 1924 at Collegeville to Henry and Loretta (Abfalter) Winkelman.  He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II.  He married Leora Vogel Winkelman on February 19, 1952 and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2000.  He married Frances Oothoudt Winkelman on March 30, 2005.  Leonard was a mink farmer in Kimball from 1961-1978 and also did monument engraving throughout the Midwest area.  He was a member of St. Anne's Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and Veteran's of Foreign War.  He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing; participating in the Disabled Veteran turkey & deer hunts and fishing outings.  In 2009 Leonard joined in the first Honor Flight to Washington DC to be present at the WW II Memorial.

He is survived by his wife Frannie Oothoudt Winkelman of South Haven, sons Wayne & his wife Vicky of St. Augusta, Glenn & his wife Joan of South Haven, step children Danny Oothoudt of Corbet, OR, Mark Oothoudt of Brainerd, Gayle & her husband Glen Holst of Brainerd, 5 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 7 step great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his first wife Leora, step son Gary Oothoudt, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

The pallbearers will be his grandchildren Robert, Brent, Scot, Marybeth, and Thomas Winkelman.
