LaVonne H. Higgins, age 78, of South Haven died peacefully at her home on Friday, July 4, 2008.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fair Haven with Rev. Timothy Nerud officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, Clearwater. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the Church. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Tuesday.

LaVonne Helena Higgins was born September 25, 1929 in Minneapolis to Arthur and Matha (Fischer) Nelson. She was Baptized on October 27, 1929 in Concordia Lutheran Church, Fair Haven and Confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on March 29, 1942 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. She married Morgan Walberg in August of 1947 and he died in December of 1957. LaVonne then married James Higgins in October of 1962 and he preceded her in death in December of 1986. She worked as a cook at many area restaurants and later worked for Frigidaire in St. Cloud. LaVonne enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, her flowers, bird watching, and cooking. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Robert) Grossinger of South Haven, Linda Tobin (Cliff Mooney) of Clearwater, Gail (Melvin) Kipka of St. Cloud, Mary (Ronald) Lund of Cokato, James (Bonnie) Higgins of South Haven, Pat Schmidt of Annandale, Michael Higgins of South Haven; daughter-in-law, Kay Walberg of Redwood Falls; brother, ArMand (Gerri) Nelson of Brooklyn Park; 15 grandchildren, James, Craig, Scott, Jeff, Laurie, Kim, Shawn, Michelle, Jamie, Danniella, Darius, Dustin, Brandon, Jennifer, & Jeremy; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sons, Mark Walberg & Brian Higgins, and a sister, Donna Murphy.

The pallbearers will be James Grossinger, Laurie Mooney, Shawn Kipka, Jeremy Schmidt, Darius Mortezaee, Jeff Tobin, Brandon Higgins and Dustin Mortezaee. The organist will be Ruth Fry and the arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
