Laverne Olivia Knaus was born November 12, 1919 in St. Cloud to Aaron and Olivia (Hall) Long.  She married Carlyle P. Knaus on September 24, 1940 at Holy Angels Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on January 28, 2006.  In 1946 after Carlyle returned from serving in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II, Carlyle & Laverne moved to Kimball and purchased Knaus Sausage House which was founded in 1912 by Carlyle's father.  For 45 years they built their business around and with family, which is now owned by their children.  She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and the Kimball American Legion Post 261 Auxiliary.

Laverne and Carlyle enjoyed their retirement by wintering in Brownsville, TX and their summers at their home on Lake Carnelian.  Later Laverne enjoyed visits from family and friends at her home in Kimball.  Laverne's greatest value in life was her faith, family and friends.  Her friends will say she was a welcoming and giving person to the church and the community all her life.  Laverne was full of wit and laughter.  She was a dedicated Minnesota Twins fan and her love of women's softball and bowling which she participated in was always spoken of.

She is survived by her seven children Ron (Diane) of Kimball, Diane Nelson of Kimball, Ken (Mary) of Kimball, Pat of Sun City West, AZ, Suzette Carlson (Rich Ring) of Kimball, Doug (Vicki) of Kimball, Kurt (Jody) of Kimball, sister Louise Yager of St. Cloud, 20 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons in law Jim Nelson & Bob Jacobson, 1 brother and 3 sisters.

The pallbearers will be Bekki Knaus, Rhonda Jacobson, Krista Swenson, Tanya Dickie, Kelsey Knaus, and Andy Knaus.  The music for the service will be provided by Frosty Schiefelbein, organist and the St. Anne's Choir.  The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball.
