Kasper W. Giese, age 90, of Buffalo, formerly of Montrose, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at Sunrise Assisted Living Community. Kasper lived at his home on Lake Pulaski with his wife Lucille, until this past November. Since then the staff from Sunrise and North Memorial Hospice have assisted Kasper's family in providing loving care through the last few months of his life.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buffalo. Rev. James Disney will officiate and burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday, both at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Kasper Wilhelm Giese was born February 4, 1918 in Watertown, Minnesota to Frank and Pauline (Shilling) Giese. He was united in marriage to Lucille Theisen on October 8, 1941 in Delano, Minnesota. Kasper honorably served his country in the Army during World War II from 1942-1946. He was self-employed as a mechanic until his retirement in 1976. Kasper was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Buffalo American Legion Post #270. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Montrose Fire Department for 20 years. Kasper loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, but his greatest enjoyment in life was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille of Buffalo; children, Marlene (Floyd) Erickson, Maxine (Roger) Vieau, both of Buffalo, Judy (Keith) Topel of Garfield, and Karen Pionk of Champlin; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Kasper is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pauline Giese; his brothers, Art, Ted and Walter Giese; his sisters, Louella Luffey and Elsie Jaeckal.

Pallbearers will be Kevin and Reed Vieau, Corey, Davin and Keil Topel, Michael and Curt Erickson and Kody Pionk. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
