Joseph N. Elsen, age 86, of 12967 Bayview Road, South Haven died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Annandale Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale with Fr. Mark Willenbring officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Cemetery, Delano. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale. There will be a prayer service 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Joseph Nicholas Elsen was born March 3, 1918 at Waverly to Docus and Louise (Ludescher) Elsen. He married Louise B. Borg November 28, 1942 in Clearwater. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was a 56-year member of the Delano American Legion Post #377. Joe was a Tool & Dye Maker for FMC Corporation in Fridley for 30 years, retiring in 1981. In 1989 Joe & Louise moved from Brooklyn Park to the west shore of Clearwater Lake, rural South Haven. He enjoyed fishing & dancing and was a member of St. Ignatius Church.
He is survived by his wife, Louise of South Haven; son, Robert of Balaton; daughter, Judy Hystad & her husband, Robert of Brooklyn Park; sisters, Dorothy Schlicht of Ruskin, FL, Laura Bihl & her husband, Marvin of Clearwater, Marie Elsen of St. Cloud; four grandchildren, Charles (Rene) Hystad, Edward Hystad, Brenda (Michael) Chisholm, Ben (Holly) Elsen; and 5 great grandchildren. His sister Theresa preceded him in death.
The pallbearers will be Thomas, Andrew, & Jason Bihl, Ben Elsen, Charles Hystad, and Timothy Athey. Dureen Gasser will be providing music for the service.
