John B. Winn, GySgt USMC Retired, age 89 of Annandale, Veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, died peacefully at home Dec. 20. Survived by loving wife of 69 years, Marvel; sons John, Michael (Linda), daughter Kathleen (David); grandchildren, Lisa (Nesi), Laura (Bo), John; Kristie (Randy), Michael (Elizabeth), Erin, Alison; great-grandchildren Matthew, Brianne, Andreas, Ana, Aris; Chase, Marissa; Kathryn, Grace, John; Caroline, Jayden, Donovon; great- great-grandson Mandor. John was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Rifle and Pistol Teams, competing and winning honors at Camp Perry, Ohio, for many years, and was also a member of the prestigious USMC Infantry Trophy Rifle Team.
An avid hunting and fishing sportsman, he enjoyed teaching Hunters Safety, especially the children, at the Annandale Conservation Club for many years, and he also enjoyed the competition and comradery of its members. Continuing his interest in firearms, in retirement, he attended the Camp Perry National Matches as a Volunteer Range and Chief Range Officer for 20 years. HAPPIEST DAYS: At home on the lake with the family, and working with pride in his yard and enviable gardens.
A loving, gentle giant with the children, and a hearty laugh and handshake for friends. John was a very grateful and dedicated "friend of Bill W." for over 20 years. He will be sadly missed by all who shared his life.
Memorial Service Thursday, Dec. 26, at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to service at Dingmann Funeral Chapel, Annandale, MN. Interment Friday, Dec. 27, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
