John VanDorp, age 92, of Maple Lake died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the Silver Creek Community Church with Rev. Tim Overweg officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Creek Township. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and one hour prior to services at the Church. There will be a prayer service 7:30 p.m. Friday.
John VanDorp was born September 22, 1914 at Harrisburg, SD to Simon and Adrianna (VanSanten) VanDorp. He married Jeannette Naaktgeboren on September 24, 1942 in Silver Creek and she preceded him in death on August 7, 2000. John was a farmer and was a maintenance worker at Maple Lake Elementary School and then the I94 Hasty Rest Area. He could repair most anything and enjoyed fixing things, woodworking and welding. He was a member of Silver Creek Community Church.
He is survived by sons & their wives, Willis & Von of Buffalo, Roger & Sharon of Auburn Hills, MI, Harold & Patti of Annandale, Loren & Jane of Buffalo; sisters, Jeanne Wardell of Brooklyn Center, Joanne Cole of Bethlehem, PA; and 8 grandchildren, Elisa, Taylor, Ryan, Megan, Jordan, Katie, Roshalle & Mark. He was preceded in death by his wife, infant son, Harold Willis VanDorp, brother, Alfred VanDorp, and sister, Jeannette Naaktgeboren.
The pallbearers will be John Bruns, Bill Berg, Peter Schermer, Dick Naaktgeboren, Bud Vandergon, and Tom Kotilinek. The honorary pallbearers will be Diane Bruns and Jeannette Berg. The music for the service will be provided by Don DeBoer, organist and Orma Lou Jacobsma, soloist. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
