John W. Topfer, age 80, of Annandale died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the Buffalo Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church, Silver Creek Township. Pastor Jim Tetlie will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the service, Friday at the church. An open time to share stories and memories of John will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
John William Topfer was born February 8, 1929 in Maple Lake to Martinus and Roelfje (Kamphuis) Topfer. He graduated from Annandale High School, then worked as a dairy farmer until his decline in health. On August 20, 1977 he married Mardonna Felt. They were companions, working together on the farm until her death in 1992. He was a former member of the Dutch Reformed Church in Silver Creek. John enjoyed talking with friends and family over a cup of coffee. He was a loyal, gentle man with a sense of humor. He was generous and kind. He had a way of finding out others "life stories" and loved to hear about where a person grew up, especially if it was a dairy farm! He had a passion for dairy and at one time never missed a milking for 22 years. His dream was for the farm and it's community. The past few months John resided in Bethany Homes of Litchfield. He impacted all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his sister, Jeanette (Wesley) Berg of Annandale; nephew, Harry Plaggerman of Maple Lake; step children, Penny (Pat) Thomas of Rochester, Pamela (Pat) Schwab of Willmar, Robin (Dan) Puckett of Grove City, Russel (Barb) Felt of Litchfield and Tana Forner (special friend, Mike Anderson) of Annandale; 19 step grandchildren and 20 step great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother in law, Roy Plaggerman and step grandson, Jonathon Felt.
Pallbearers will be Tim and Cliff Mol, Adam Berndt, Brent and Tyler Jude, Larry and Henry Smith. Honorary pallbearers are step grandsons Troy, Trent and Trevor Thomas, Josiah, Andrew and Phillip Puckett, David and Daniel Felt. Sandra Repke and Colleen Burch will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
