John L. Slimmer, age 72, of Annandale, MN and Mesa, AZ died Friday, November 17, 2006 at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, AZ.
A prayer service will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2006 at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake with Rev. Deacon Ronald Freeman officiating. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
John Lloyd Slimmer was born May 31, 1934 in Burtrum to Harry and Ella (Walker) Slimmer. He served his country in the Army in the late fifties. John married Barbara V. Goettl on February 11, 1989. He will always be remembered for his funny stories, many jokes, and his willingness to help others. After retirement as an electrical contractor, he was able to do some of the things he really loved most, fishing, moose, deer and turkey hunting with his boys and grandsons, flying his remote control airplane and sometimes crashing it, playing dominos, writing poems, and taking trips to Alaska and Australia. He enjoyed summers at Sugar Lake and winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Barbara; sons, Jeff (Jan) of St. Michael and Scott (Dawn) of Maple Grove; their mother, Peggy Vold of Bemidji; grandchildren, Jason (Jessica), Jamie, Jesse, Jon, Riley and Rebecca; step children, Vicki (Dick) Arnst of Cologne, Jean (Russ) Worm of Cologne, Greg (Marsi) Renne of Shakopee, Tim (Jean) Renne of Carver, Rich (Kim) Renne of Chaska and Karen (Joseph) Obregon of Corpus Christi, TX; step grandchildren, Rachel (Josh) Zabel, Chris and Matt Arnst, Jim, Becky and Adam Worm, Miranda, Samantha, Josh and Travis Renne; two sisters, Mildred Crain of Coon Rapids and Martha (Virgil) Richardson of Bloomington; sisters-in-law, Virginia of Burtrum and Dorothy of Little Falls; brother-in-law, Vern Pearson of Little Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. His parents, Harry and Ella; brothers, Ken, Don and Harry; sister, Dorothy Pearson; and brother-in-law, Estel Crain preceded him in death.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Grandpa, we think you're safe now; there aren't any snakes in heaven.
