John H. Kanehl, age 97 of Annandale died peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Annandale Care Center surrounded by his family

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale. Rev. D.J. Lura will officiate and burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the service, Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

John Herman Kanehl was born March 30, 1912 to William and Augusta (Schinkel) Kanehl in Aldrich, MN. He served his country in the Army during WWII. John was married to Helen Dietz on Sept 4, 1944. He worked as a roofer, retiring in 1977 from John A. Dalsin & Son's Roofing. John was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a big fisherman and outdoorsman; he enjoyed watching wrestling, camping, traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son, John (Debbie) of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Phillip DesRosier, Scott (Janet) DesRosier and Patty DesRosier, all of Las Vegas, Anna (Mike) Leonard of St. Cloud and Troy Holmes (Nicole Rhodes) of Annandale; sisters, Gertrude Botz of Aitkin and Irene Anders of Hopkins; and six great grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; daughters, Bonnie Troy and Barbara Holmes; an infant great grandchild; brothers, Frank, Fred and William; and sisters, Bertha Schmitt, Emma Schroeder, Anna Luke and Minnie Bayerl.

Pallbearers will be Troy Holmes, Anna Leonard, Michael Leonard and Nicole Rhodes. Orma Lou Jacobsma will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
