Obituary

John Patrick Geary, 68, of Cokato, formerly of Maple Lake, died peacefully from COVID-19 at North Memorial Hospital on December 10, 2020. Private Graveside Services will be held. John was born in St. Cloud to George and Mary Anne (Bullock) Geary, who preceded John in death. He worked at Functional Industries for most of his adult life, participated in ARC activities, swam in the Special Olympics and went on adventures with his house mates. He also savored delicious meals, telling stories, and traveling. John was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Timothy, Maple Lake. John brought joy to family and friends by offering big smiles and robust hugs. He loved being with his family especially during holidays, vacations, or stayovers where he would end his visit by saying, "When am I coming back?". In March 2020, John's routine of work and home changed. He and his housemates were found spending more time together and replacing their work with new activities. John learned, with the help of staff, to Zoom on his iPad. He delighted in seeing his "two favorite sisters" and himself on the screen every other day until mid-November. He would show off his artwork, give updates on supper menus, and tell how many minutes he exercised that day. Sign off would include virtual hugs and kisses. John is survived by his sisters and their spouses, Colleen Geary Carter (William Carter III) of Saint Paul, and Rebecca Ludenia (Michael) of Maple Lake; his nieces and nephews, Patrick (Steph), Mark (Kiara), and Bridget Carter, Kevin (Amber), Janel, and Scott (Jaime) Ludenia; and 7 great-nieces and nephews; aunts, Adelaide and Elizabeth; and his beloved staff and housemates at Mooers House. Special thanks to the health care professionals, human service staff, advocates, neighbors, family, and friends who filled John's life with dignity, joy, and love.
