Jerald E. Forness, age 81, of LaPorte City, IA died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Laporte City Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale, MN. Burial with full military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale and at the Church one hour prior to services. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Friday.
Jerald Elwood Forness was born October 13, 1927 in Colfax, ND to Oscar and Inga (Wollan) Forness. He served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Occupation following WWII and then for 27 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He also supported the U.S. Army Reserve mission in another capacity, retiring as the Area Maintenance Support Activity (AMSA) Shop Supervisor for AMSA 23 in St. Joseph, MN. He married Rosemary Lenz on December 29, 1952 in Mantador, ND and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2002. He was a former member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church of Annandale, St. Anthony Catholic Church of St. Cloud, Knights of Columbus, St. Cloud American Legion Post 428, and Annandale & St. Cloud VFWs. He enjoyed his dedication to the U.S. Army Reserves, traveling with Rosemary in the motor home, and playing cards.
He is survived by sons Thomas (Toni) of Elk Run Heights, IA, Bruce (Lisa) of Golden Valley, MN, Bryon of Annandale, brothers Allan (Phyllis) of Colfax, ND, Ron (Shirley) of Abercrombie, ND, sisters Carol (Norm) Browne of Dana Point, CA, Charlotte (Richard) Burns of Fergus Falls, MN, and 9 grandchildren. His wife and sons David, Daniel & Timothy preceded him in death.
The pallbearers will be Jay, Josh, Kyle & Mitchell Forness, Jeremy & Jon Angell. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
