Obituary
Jane Herbst, age 71, of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, March 2, in her home surrounded by her family after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Saint Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake. Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Duelm. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday, both at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. Parish Prayers will be held 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
Jane was born on August 17, 1942, in Little Falls, Minnesota to Albert and Emily (Pogatchnik) Muenzer. Her family later moved to Saint Cloud, where she attended Cathedral High School. She married James Herbst on August 5, 1961, at Saint Mary's Cathedral in Saint Cloud. They lived in Golden Valley for ten years before moving to Monticello, where they have lived for the past 42 years. A devout Catholic who spent hours each week at Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and praying the rosary in her home, Jane was known in the Monticello community for her wonderful meals, beautifully decorated wedding cakes, and Christmas cookie platters.
Jane is survived by her husband, James; sons and daughters, Kurt (Carol) of Charleston, SC, Clint (Diane) of Monticello, Jess (Hope) of Mission Viejo, CA, Robyn (Scott) Tessmer of Platte City, MO, Rebecca (Jeff) Kittel of Monticello, Chris (Jennie) of Saint Michael, and Kent (Erin) of Saint Michael; 27 grandchildren; and sister in law Idella Muenzer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Joan Schneeweis; and brothers, Charles Muenzer and Michael John Muenzer. The family would like to thank the Saint Cloud Hospital Hospice for their care and compassion in Jane's final weeks. Memorials preferred to the Monticello Cancer Center.
The pallbearers will be Kevin, Richard, Samuel, Joseph, and Adam Herbst, Quintin Tessmer, and Konnor Kittel. The music for the service will be provided by Sandy Palm, Rebecca Kittel, Cara Herbst and Rick Herbst. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
