James R. Petty, age 64, died at his home in Annandale during the early morning on Friday, March 11, 2011 from what is believed to have been cardiac arrest.
Memorial Services will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Annandale United Methodist Church with Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Friends may call from 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
James Roger Petty was born May 25, 1946 to the late Lawrence and Sarah Petty; they resided in Maine Prairie just north of Kimball. Jim attended the Maine Prairie Country School and graduated from Kimball High School in 1963. On July 30, 1977, he was united in marriage to Paula Flygare at Camp Koinonia in South Haven.
After high school, Jim began his career as a meat cutter by working at the Knaus Sausage House in Kimball for eight years. After a seven year stay with Zayres Shoppers City of St. Cloud, he and his brother Mic purchased the Annandale Locker Plant in 1980; they renamed it Petty Brothers Meats. Petty Brothers is currently owned by Jim and his son, Bob.
Jim was an active member of the Kimball Rod and Gun Club, where he thoroughly enjoyed the competition and camaraderie of trapshooting with close friends and family. He also served on the Ski Patrol of Powder Ridge for 30 years, and was once named Patrolman of the Year for the state of Minnesota. An avid outdoorsmen, much of Jim's leisure time was spent on the lakes fishing.
A devoted family man, Jim is survived by his wife, Paula; daughter, Nicole Petty & her significant other, Travis Hunter; twin sons & their fiancés, Thomas Petty & Kirstin Dropps of Clearwater and Robert Petty & Ashley Klinger of Annandale; grandson, Owen Petty; and brother & his wife, John "Mic" & Rosann Petty of Kimball. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Sarah Petty.
