Jacob E. Essen, age 93, of 11358 90th Street NW, Annandale died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. with Memorial Services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Annandale United Methodist Church with Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale. Memorials are preferred to the Mary Essen Alzheimer's Education Fund, CentraCare Foundation, 1406 6th Ave N, St. Cloud 56303.
Jacob Ernest Essen was born April 7, 1913 at Isabel, SD to Jacob E. and Cora B. (Morse) Essen. In 1935 he graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Engineering. He married Mary E. Lowe on February 6, 1937 in Buffalo and she preceded him in death on March 9, 1994. He was a member of the US Navy 111th Seabees during WW II, participating in the Normandy Invasion on Omaha Beach and in the Philippines during the Invasion of Borneo. Jake worked as a civil engineer for Al Johnson Construction Co. in Minneapolis for 40 years, retiring in 1978 and since 1975 has lived at Annandale on Clearwater Lake, previously living in Robbinsdale. He was a member of the Annandale United Methodist Church and Sigma Nu Fraternity.
He is survived by children, Richard ( Beverly) of Plymouth, Barbra (Judd) Owen of Annandale, Jeffrey (Barbara) of Wayzata; grandchildren, Sarah Owen, Mary Owen, David (Sarah) Essen, Elizabeth (Chad) Stone; great grandsons, Jacob, William, Jonathon & Jameson; and brother in law, Winton Wolff of Minnetonka.
