Henry lived with his parents and younger siblings in Golden Spike, Alberta, until 1943 when Henry Fry, Sr., a Lutheran minister, moved his family to Forbes, North Dakota.

While there, their last three children were born.

In 1969 Henry and his family moved again to North Ridgeville, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, where he served as pastor to a new congregation, Shepherd of the Ridge Lutheran. After one year the family moved when Henry received another call to become the minister of St. John's Lutheran Church in Young America, Minnesota, where he stayed until his retirement in December of 1997.

In early 1998 Henry and Ruth moved to their retirement home on Bass Lake in Annandale, Minnesota.
