Helen Katherine Purcell, age 92, of Annandale died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Annandale Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale with Fr. Michael Izen and Deacon Ron Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Tuesday with Fr. Victor Valencia officiating.
Helen Coombs O'Loughlin Purcell was born January 11, 1916 in Silver Creek Township, Wright County to Arthur & Helena (Dircks) Coombs and was Baptized at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Maple Lake. She was a graduate of Maple Lake High School, Annandale Teacher Training, and St. Cloud State University. She married Jerry O'Loughlin on October 11, 1944 and he preceded her in death on October 26, 1953. Helen then went back to College and received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education. She taught 5th grade in Annandale for 23 years, retiring in 1978. She married Earl J. Purcell on November 6, 1987 and they spent much of their time traveling around the United States, Canada, and parts of Europe. She was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Council of Catholic Women, MN Citizen's Concerned for Life, and the Teacher's Retirement Assn.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Purcell of Annandale; step children & their spouses, Jack & Peggy of Annandale, Larry & Anna of Maple Lake, Donald & Patty of Maple Lake, Robert & Carol of Annandale, Mary & Bill Greene of Owatonna, Daniel of St. Cloud, Deborah & Dean Flygare of Annandale, Timothy & Mary of Winsted; 25 step grandchildren; and 38 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband Jerry O'Loughlin; step son Edward Purcell; step grandchildren Stacy Purcell & Roberta Purcell; brothers Wilbur, Floyd & Morris Coombs; and sisters, Margaret Dahlman, Mabel Coombs, Dorothy Hines & Bernice Purcell.
The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
