Harold J. Cantin, age 74, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Maple Lake, Minnesota, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Life Care Center of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Monday, May 19, 2014 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 am Monday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Harold John Cantin was born November 16, 1939 in Corinna Township to John and Magdalyn (Osterbauer) Cantin. He was a member of the Class of 1957 at Maple Lake High School. Harold served his country in the US Army; he trained Taiwanese soldiers in Nike-Hercules missiles. On October 1, 1960, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Pribyl at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake. This marriage was blessed with three children. Harold worked in road maintenance for Albion Township for 6 years and for Wright County for 17 years; he was then self-employed manufacturing docks, trailers, harvesting lake weeds and snowplowing. He also drove school bus and the Lightning Hockey Team. He was a member of the Maple Lake American Legion Post 131 and St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.
He is survived by his wife Bette of Colorado Springs, CO; son Michael (Annette) Cantin of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren Jamie (Eric) Kummer, Anthony Wolff, Amanda and Sarah Cantin; great grandchild Caleb Kummer; sisters Rose Dahlin (special friend Bill Wagner) of Monticello and Doris (James) Bayerl of Maple Lake; brother Lester (Linda) Cantin of Maple Lake; son-in-law Scott Lilja of Fredrick, MD; brother's-in-law and sister's-in-law Ernest Pribyl of Minneapolis, Jean (Charles) Christopherson of St. Cloud, Debra (Brad) Norine of Annandale and Keith (Melissa) Pribyl of St. Paul. He is preceded in death by his daughters Linda Lilja and Nancy Wolff.
The pallbearers will be Alvin Elfmann, David Holmberg, Anthony Wolff, Eric Kummer, Mark Obinger and John Cantin. The St. Timothy Resurrection Choir will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
