Grace J. Kleven, age 76, of Maple Lake died Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Country Manor Health Care Center, Sartell.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Maple Lake with Rev. Richard Mark officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service 6:30 p.m. Monday. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
Grace Junnette Kleven was born June 23, 1928 at Hawley to Carl and Gina (Jore) Ekre. She married Carl P. Kleven April 16, 1949 in Hawley and he preceded her in death on April 16, 1994. She was employed by the Lincoln Del, St. Louis Park from 1954-1969, Moorhead Holiday Inn from 1969-1972, Ellis Steak House, Annandale from 1971-1974, and then for 15 years by the Maple Lake Cafe; owning & operating the cafe from 1974-1977. She was a former member of Westwood Lutheran Church, St. Louis Park and a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and the Maple Lake VFW Post #7664 Auxiliary, being their treasurer since inception. She was a Campfire Girls Leader and aided various youth sports organizations in St. Louis Park. She was always willing to volunteer her food preparation skills for the VFW, Maple Lake Schools, and area churches and benefits.
She is survived by her 3 children & their spouses, Gregory Kleven of Maple Lake, Nancy & Robert Bratvold of East Grand Forks, Sandy & Dale Ashwill of Cokato; 4 grandchildren, Kyle Ashwill of Cokato, Karrissa (John) Kasella of Royalton, Randy Bratvold of Minneapolis, Julie Bratvold of Bemidji; sister, brothers & their spouses, Doris Olsen of St. Louis Park, Kenneth & Janice Ekre of Hawley, and Gordon & Carol Ekre of Hawley. She is preceded in death by her husband, brothers & sisters, Clayton, Bernice & Ivy Ekre, Hazel Peterson, Opal Swenson, Esther Johnson, and Irene Bielke.
The pallbearers will be Jerome, Ron, Steve, & Mark Ekre, Jay & Neal Olson, Gary & Emery Kleven. The music for the service will be provided by Joyce Breen & David Schmidt, vocalists and Pearl Lieb, organist. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
