Gordon W. Peterson, age 70, of Annandale died Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Hennepin County Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Dave Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Gordon Warren Peterson was born September 18, 1938 in Minneapolis to Russell and Naomi (Jernell) Peterson. He was a 1956 graduate of Edison High School and a 1960 graduate of the University of Minnesota. He taught social studies and coached football & wrestling at Green Bay East High School from 1964-1966 and then until 1972 at St. Croix Falls High School. He married Marilyn R. Groe on June 8, 1968 in Lake Mills, Iowa. In 1973 he received his Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls at which time he became a guidance counselor at Maple Lake High School. Over the years he coached football, was Community Education Director, and Athletic Director, retiring in 2002. He currently was a Realtor at Oak Realty, Annandale and coordinator for the Minnesota State High School League Region 5A-District 20. He was a former council member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was a member. He was a member and past President of the Lake John Association. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, football (especially the Gophers), and researching his Swedish roots.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Marilyn of Annandale; children, Holly (Dennis) Sjoberg of Hanover, Heidi (Lawrence) Vandal of Fargo, Matthew of Minneapolis; brothers, Donald (Melva) & R. Dale (Betty) all of Isanti; and 7 grandchildren, Brody, Zachary & Owen Sjoberg, Noah, Levi, Elizabeth & Luke Vandal.
