Gordon Lee Manthie was born July 27, 1933, in Ogilvie to William and Louise (Schaffer) Manthie. He graduated from Ogilvie High School in 1953 and worked for Denesen Company for a short while before he married Dorla Green on February 26, 1955. He then went into military service for two years. He spent the majority of his career on a hand-delivery mail route with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1988. His family would say that he never truly "retired" and was always working on something! He owned a cabin in Outing, where he retreated for his much loved outdoor activities. He also spent time remodeling three rental properties in the Maple Lake area, including the old Soo Line Building. In his later years, Papa Gordy loved to prepare food for his family out of his garden.
He is survived by his wife, Dorla; children, David (Lynn) of Milaca, Daniel (girlfriend, Kelly Lund) of Ogilvie, Debra (Craig) Gruenhagen of Howard Lake and Darin (girlfriend, Julie Utne) of Annandale; siblings, Margaret Hansen of Princeton, Lucille Hallin of Bock, Luella Nelson of Milaca, Albert (Grace) of Milaca, Betty (Dale) Miller of Milaca and Eugene of Ogilvie; sister-in-law, Mary Manthie of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Jessica, Heather, Angela, Nicole, Nathan, Barbara, Daniel Jr, Ryan, Justin, Brittney, and Khloe; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Madelyn, Gavin, Jackson, Abigail, and Brogan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, William Jr, Francis, Henry, George, and Edward.
