Obituary

George C. Gohmann, age 88 of Kimball died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Hilltop Care Center in Watkins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pearl Lake with Fr. Jerry Nordick and Fr. Thomas Olson celebrating the mass.  Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

George Clemens Gohmann was born May 15, 1922 at his home in Clearwater to Bernard and Margaret (Liesch) Gohmann.  On October 20, 1943, he was united in marriage to Alvera A. Kloeppner at St. Mary's Help of Christians in St. Augusta. They lived in St. Cloud, until moving to Pearl Lake in 1973 and to Kimball in 1997.  George honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He worked in maintenance and as a foreman for the Stearns County Highway Department for 38 years.  He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Catholic Aid, Kimball Lions Club, Kimball American Legion and served on the St. Cloud Fire Department from 1958 – 1977.  George enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening and giving his grandchildren whisker rubs.

He is survived by his wife, Alvera; children, Eugene (Gloria) of Kimball, Ray (Sharon) of Luxemburg, Duane (Deb) of Anoka, Joan (Mike) Hoppens of Onalaska, WI, Betty (Bob) Henkemeyer of Waite Park and Greg (Sandi) of St. Cloud; 14 grandchildren, Teresa, John, Rod, Tracey, Shawn, Chad, Jeremy, Andy, Michelle, Nick, Matt, Rachel, Christopher and Katy; 14 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Margaret Fandel of St. Cloud, Alice (Tom) Anderson of Sauk Rapids, Bernard (Louise) of Clearwater and Evelyn Kraus of Waite Park; step sister, Marcy Virden; brothers and sisters in law, Bernice, Clara and Jim Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Victor, Sylvester, John, Norbert and Walter; sisters, Florentine Storms, Helen Kunkel and Irene Anderson; and step sister, Alvina.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and honorary pallbearers will be his great
grandchildren.  Katy Hoppens and Julene Farber-Andrusrick will provide the music for the service.  Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Kimball.
