Obituary

Ethel Digatono-Baker, age 87, of Annandale died Saturday, August 28, 2004 at home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2004 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale with Signe Gray, AiM officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday. There will be a prayer service 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Ethel Digatono-Baker was born April 13, 1917 in Aneta, ND to Ole A. and Emma (Johnson) Moen. She was raised and educated in North Dakota and moved to Mpls. in 1938 to obtain employment. There she provided domestic services in private households, eventually securing positions as head cook at private residences as well as St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Mpls, and Beecher's Resort in Annandale. In the late 60's and throughout the 70's Ethel operated a successful catering business, providing elegant meals for weddings and other special occasions.

On Sept. 9, 1946 she married Joseph Digatono of Mpls. Together they raised six children at their home in New Hope; he preceded her in death in 1995 shortly after they established retirement residence in Annandale.

On April 3, 2004 she married Dr. Milton Baker at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale. Ethel was active in the Annandale Senior Meal program, the Annandale History Club, served two consecutive terms as President of the VFW Post 494 Auxiliary, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale.

Ethel will be deeply missed by all those who loved her. She will be remembered for her gourmet cooking, her sense of humor, and her amazing strength, and resilience.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Milton Baker; sons, David (Cathy) of Maple Grove, Stephen and Mark of Champlin; daughters, Margo Vasicek of Lakota, ND, and Julie Fiereck of Coon Rapids; step-son, Lance Baker of FL; step-daughter, Bryce (Paul) Zabinski of Annandale; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Wegenast of Oakes, ND; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Ethel was also preceded in death by son, Charles; infant daughter, Mary Catherine; sister, Evelyn; brothers, Howard, Russell, & Ronald, and son in law, Robert Fiereck.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Topel, Nathan Vasicek, Dominic, Tony, Mark, and David Digatono. Music for the funeral provided by Orma Lou Jacobsma.

Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
