Obituary

Eleanor G. Kautio, age 88, of Annandale died Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Annandale Care Center.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at Zion United Methodist Church, South Haven with Pastor Luke C. Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the Church. There will be a prayer service 6 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at Acacia Cemetery, Clearwater and memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army, St. Cloud.

Eleanor Grace Kautio was born July 20, 1921 in St. Cloud to Henry and Emily Grace (Stewart) Hinz. She graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School and at age eighteen from St. Cloud State University. She married George R. Kautio on June 11, 1946 in Clearwater and he preceded her in death on August 2, 1994. Eleanor was a member of the Minnesota Education Association, Zion United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and sewing. She was an elementary school teacher teaching 1st Grade for 43 years retiring in 1981 from Kimball Area School District 739. Not one to slow down, even after retirement Eleanor was active in various volunteer endeavors for many years. She was a volunteer driver for Wright County Senior Services taking seniors to doctor appointments in St. Cloud & the Twin Cities and she volunteered at the St. Cloud Hospital where she was a receptionist greeting visitors and answering phones. Eleanor's favorite volunteer work was as a cook at the Salvation Army for several years. During those years she was rewarded with the gift of many long-lasting friendships that she would have never made had she not volunteered.

She is survived by her two children Kay Kautio of Crystal, James (Bernadette) Kautio of Olathe, KS, two grandchildren Lindsay Kautio of Lenexa, KS, Derek (Megan) Kautio of Fairway, KS, and two sisters Erna DeBlois of South Haven & Helen (Wilbert) Anderson of Otsego. Her parents and brother Cleo Hinz preceded her in death.

The pallbearers will be Derek & Lindsay Kautio, Jeanne Schabel, Wendy VanVleet, Greg Potthoff and Gary Fabel. Abigail Salmon, organist will provide the music for the service and the arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
