Edwin `Ned` McCarty, age 84, of Maple Lake, Minnesota died April 26, 2006 at North Memorial Medical Center Hospice Unit, Robbinsdale, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2006 at St. Timothy`s Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. Mark Huberty officiating. Friends may call from 8-8:30 a.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will also be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006 at St. Joseph`s Catholic Church, Hartley, Iowa. Interment will follow in Hartley`s Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday with a rosary at 7 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church in Hartley. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society or Minnesota Hospice.

Edwin Charles McCarty was born January 7, 1922 in Sheldon, IA the eighth of fifteen children of Lionel P. and Mary C. (O`Kane) McCarty. He attended Carroll Township, O`Brien County Country School and graduated Hartley High School in 1939 prior to attending George Washington University, Washington, DC. Ned worked for the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank in Omaha from 1939-1941, then the FBI in Washington, DC for one year prior to returning home to farm for the war effort from 1942-1945. He married Ruth K. Wichmann, his wife of sixty years, on November 22, 1945, and they farmed near Hartley, IA and later near Melrose, MN until 1965. He managed elevators in Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota until retirement in Sutherland, IA. They moved to Maple Lake in 1995. Ned was a member of St. Timothy`s Catholic Church and Father O`Brien Council Knights of Columbus #3613, and was a Church Trustee and Knights of Columbus member in three parishes in the different towns in which he lived. Ned was a loving and devoted husband and a wonderful father cherished and honored by his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed golf and fishing and in his later years woodworking and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Maple Lake; children & their spouses, Timothy & Susan of Walla Walla, WA, Terrence of Minneapolis, Thomas & Doris of Rosemount, MN, Theodore & Virginia of Buffalo, MN, Monica & Patrick Kappes of Marion, IA, Marcia & Charles Kerl of Gardnerville, NV, Todd of Danbury, CT; brother, sisters & their spouses, Bernie & Harold Bell of Spirit Lake, IA, Delores Bryant of Arnolds Park, IA, Vernon & Betty McCarty of Beaverton, OR, Joan & Kenneth Wacker of Albertville, MN; 19 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers & sisters, Phillip, James, John, Rosemary, Lionel, LeRoy, Clement, Richard, Therese, and Howard.

The honorary pallbearers will be Dan, Kevin, Chris, & Nick McCarty, Mike & Tyson Reynoldson. The music for the Mass in Maple Lake will be provided by St. Timothy`s Resurrection Choir with Marge Pavlik, organist. The music for the service in Hartley will be provided by Julie Burns, soloist and Nancy Rieck, organist. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care, Maple Lake, Minnesota and Hartley Funeral Home, Hartley, Iowa.
