Edward J. Raiche, age 89, of Maple Lake died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Park View Care Center in Buffalo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2009 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake. Fr. Michael Izen will officiate and burial will be in St. Timothy's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. Parish prayers will be held 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Edward Joseph Raiche was born October 26, 1919 at his home in Maple Lake to Joseph and Helen (Larkin) Raiche. He graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1938 and from Mohler Barber College in 1939. Ed served his country in the U.S. Navy on a PT113 boat protecting the coast of Alaska during WWII. He married Mary Ann Lenzmeier on November 12, 1952 in Maple Lake and she preceded him in death in 2002. Ed was a barber for 61 years and owned and operated Ed's Barber Shop in Maple Lake for 55 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake Knights of Columbus, Maple Lake Chamber of Commerce, Maple Lake Lions Club and the Maple Lake Parks Board. Ed was also a former Boy Scout Commissioner, on the Maple Lake City Council for 6 years, member of the Maple Lake American Legion Post 131 for 61 years, the 1994 Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick Day Parade in Maple Lake, a 31 year member of the Maple Lake Fire Department and was the Indian for the Weather Almanac at the Maple Lake Messenger for 20 years. Ed enjoyed gardening and fishing.
He is survived by four sons and their wives, Michael & Connie of Maple Lake, William & Valerie of Palmer, AK, Kevin & Brenda of Buffalo and Keith & Holly of Breezy Point; sisters, Helen Cavanaugh of Buffalo and Ruth & Bob Molinaro; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Frank and Jim Raiche; and sister, Kathleen Loch.
Pallbearers will be Chad, Craig, Troy, Scott and Joe Raiche and Derick Dalbec. Sarah Goelz and Krista Elsenpeter Tarbox will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Maple Lake.
